Theresa Sambruno-Spannhoff

Theresa earned her interdisciplinary bachelor's degree in German Studies and Political Science from Leibniz Universität Hannover in 2018. She went on to complete both a Master of Education in German and Politics and an M.A. in Modern German Literature with honors at the same institution in 2021. During her studies, she spent two semesters in 2019 at Washington University in St. Louis, where she worked as a Research Assistant in the German Department. In 2021, she joined the Carolina-Duke Graduate Program in German Studies. 

Her dissertation project, The Literary Reimagination of Refuge in the Anthropocene, examines contemporary Germanophone science fiction through the lens of posthumanist discourse and its interdisciplinary interlocutors such as ecocriticism, ecology, gender and sexuality studies, postcolonial studies, and refugee studies. Her dissertation project receives additional support from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes.
