Financial Support for Graduate Students

All students who matriculate to the Carolina-Duke Graduate Program in German Studies will receive funding that covers tuition and health insurance and provides a stipend for 6 consecutive years.

This support is contingent on stipend holders meeting satisfactory performance criteria. In the 2021-2022 academic year, the stipend amount was $24,750. No work services are expected in return for the funding in the first year of graduate study. In the following five years, students are funded through a combination of fellowships, research, and teaching assistantships.

Students are also guaranteed some summer funding in their first two summers of graduate work. In subsequent summers, a variety of fellowship and TA opportunities are available.
