Kasturi (she/they) is a second-year graduate student at the CDG program. They hold an MA in sociology and one in German studies with a major in translation studies. They are interested in Black German Studies, literature, art history and film studies. Their research at the program involves colonial histories and audiovisual and literary production that highlights the silences of historical archival knowledge. Currently they are engaged in a project that studies the presence of AfroSurrealism in Black German literature. Another project they are working on looks at the neocolonial exploitation of African “Bruderländer” for ideological and financial gain during the East German regime as explored in archival/narrative audiovisual and literary production today. In their free time Kasturi enjoys drawing, cooking food from India and biking.
