Ian graduated from Brigham Young University in 2014 with a degree in English and another in German studies. He then earned his Master’s in English Literature in 2017. Having joined the CDG program in 2018 he has since earned a Master's in German and is busily at work on his dissertation focusing on the rhetorical subversion of confessional tropes in autobiographical narratives from antiquity to the early 19th century. Ian's research gravitates towards Medievalism, media studies, Christian thought, and fantasy. Beyond his research, Ian thrives in the classroom and has been teaching at the college level since 2014. Teaching is enormously fun for him, and he strives to cultivate a classroom environment that fosters intellectual curiosity and a strong collegial community. When Ian isn't thinking about medieval literature, he is probably reading, or writing, fantasy. When not dissertating or teaching, he is playing with his kids, experimenting with bread recipes, or trying to scratch out something on his violin.
