Katja earned both her MAs in Theatre, Film and Media Studies and in German as a Foreign/Second Language from the University of Vienna, Austria. She gained extensive teaching experience at the university level in Dublin, Budapest, and Wroclaw before joining the Carolina-Duke Graduate Program in German Studies in the Fall of 2021. In 2022, she was named one of the top 5% of undergraduate teachers at Duke University and was awarded the Max-Kade-Dissertation-Grant for a stay at the Deutsches Literaturarchiv Marbach in the summer of 2024. Katja’s research centers around the negotiation of visual aesthetics and art in contemporary literature, with an emphasis on the 1970s and questions of political agency.
